CAPSUnian leads discovery of new endemic begonia species in Panay Island

A CAPSUnian faculty member has made waves in the international botanical community after leading the discovery of a new plant species found only in Panay Island. Dr. Harold O. Buenvenida, a faculty member at CAPSU Pontevedra Campus, served as the lead researcher in identifying Begonia jurgenneae (Begoniaceae, section Petermannia), a rare and endemic species thriving in the lush tropical forests of Capiz and Iloilo.

Capiz State University – Roxas City Campus, through its College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT), held dual graduation ceremonies in Mambusao, culminating weeks of hard work and collaboration. The theme, “Pag Hanas sang Abilidad para sa Pag-Umwad,” perfectly captured the spirit of these empowering community-based skills training programs in Building Wiring Installation, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and Basic Arc Welding.
