As one united Capiz State University (CAPSU) community, students, faculty members, and staff gathered on February 13 at the Covered Gymnasium of CAPSU Dayao Satellite College in support of the #OneBillionRising (OBR) Campaign, a global dance-strike movement that seeks to raise awareness and inspire collective action to end all forms of violence against women and girls. The activity was organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) Office of the said college.
In solidarity with this global movement, CAPSU President Dr. Efren L. Linan delivered a message underscoring the significance of the activity. “The One Billion Rising began as a simple yet powerful idea: that we should never accept violence, disrespect, or inequality as normal. It is a call for women and girls to live with safety, dignity, and opportunity,” he said.
Dr. Linan further stressed that the campaign goes beyond symbolic action. “We rise not only to dance, but to speak clearly and firmly about what we will no longer tolerate. We rise to actively build a culture where everyone is treated fairly, where every voice is heard, and where no one has to shrink just to belong,” he added.
Three distinguished keynote speakers also shared their inspiring messages: Senator Bam Aquino, who delivered a brief message online; Congressman Nathaniel M. Oducado, 1Tahanan Party-list Representative; and Hon. Prince Rovic F. Gardose, SK Provincial Federation President of Capiz and Ex-Officio Board Member.
Also present were Dr. Annalie G. Campos, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Salvacion J. Legaspi, Vice President for External Affairs and Linkages; Dr. Jesusa L. Luda, GAD Director; Dr. Nilo D. Delfin, CAPSU Dayao Satellite College Director; Engr. Zandro Amanguiton, CAPSU Dayao Office of Student Affairs (OSA) Chairperson; and Dr. Regie Gillaco, CAPSU Dayao GAD Chairperson.
Through this dance campaign, the CAPSU community affirms its commitment to a future where no woman or girl experiences violence—a future grounded in mutual respect, equality, and harmony. | via Atty. Jaybe L. Blancaflor and Marco Jeslie B. Tuazon, CAPSU-PIO.
