Capiz State University delegates participated in the second phase of Agri-Tech Innovate: Accelerating Digital Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture & Fisheries, being held from August 25 to August 29, 2025, in Quezon City.

CAPSU is one of the three universities from Western Visayas to participate in this event. The other two were Central Philippine University and Aklan State University.

Delegates from CAPSU included Lanz B. Bermejo (BSCS 4 – Pontevedra Campus), Harly Khen v. Quimelat (BSCS Batch 2025 graduate from Mambusao Satellite College) and Frenz Jherick V. Fuentes (BSIT 3 Pilar Satellite College).

Joining them were there mentors: Engr. Rodel P. Balingit and Dr. Rosel Dionio. Agri-Tech Innovate second phase included a boot camp and mentoring sessions, where they are competing with other universities from different parts of the country.

Mrs. Pamela Mariquita G. Mappala, Assistant Division Chief of the Information Services Division of ATI, warmly welcomed the participants.

She emphasized the importance of networking and building friendships as key to successful collaboration for the advancement of the agriculture sector. She also recognized the competence of the students as innovators who can address the challenges facing Philippine agriculture.

Meanwhile, ATI National Director Remelyn R. Recoter enumerated the pressing challenges of the agricultural industry, such as the aging population of farmers, the low participation of youth in the sector, and the slow adoption of digitalization. She highlighted the crucial role of the youth, especially those in the field of information technology.

The project aims to identify digital solutions or services in agriculture that can address the pressing challenges of the agriculture and fisheries sector.
