Capiz State University, through its Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Office, conducted a training session on Darag Native Chicken and Tilapia production last August 8, 2025, in the Municipality of Dumalag, Capiz. A total of 130 beneficiaries from various barangays in Tapaz, Cuartero, and Dumalag participated in the training.

The event was graced by the notable presence of no less than Hon. Jane T. Castro, Congresswoman, 2nd District of Capiz. CAPSU officials in attendance included Dr. Leo Andrew B. Biclar, Vice-President for RDE; Prof. Jocelyn S. Legaspi, Extension Director; Dr. Stephanie S. Pimentel, Research Director; and Dr. Rey Dela Calzada, Director of the Fisheries and Aquamarine Research and Development Center (FARDC). Also present were Dr. Nelinda Duero, Extension Chair of CAPSU Dumarao; Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios, Program Chair, DVM- CAPSU Dumarao, and Prof. Jane P. Tropico, a faculty member of CAPSU Dumarao.
The resource persons for the training were Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios, who discussed Darag Native Chicken, and Dr. Rey Dela Calzada, who provided expertise on Tilapia production.
The training’s primary objective was to equip beneficiaries with the essential knowledge needed for Darag Native Chicken and Tilapia production. The ultimate goal is to empower them to apply this knowledge by establishing their own backyard farms. This initiative, aligned with the RDE office and CAPSU’s commitment to sustainable development, aims to boost local livelihoods and contribute to regional food security.
