The Capiz State University (CAPSU) Sigma Satellite College proudly joined the International Essay Competition (IEC) 2025 organized by Sriwijaya University, Indonesia, as part of the 64th Anniversary of its Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. With the theme “Character-Based Education and Innovative Collaboration for Transformative Impact,” six participants from Sigma Satellite College submitted their essays on August 10, showcasing their ideas on character, collaboration, and transformative education.

Among them, Arabella Grace H. Villan, a Tourism Management student, made history when she was announced as one of the Top 8 Finalists on August 28. Out of numerous international entries, she secured the 4th spot on the list and stood as one of only 2 Filipino students to advance to the finals, a proud moment for this university and the country.

The following day, on August 29, Arabella faced the crucial final presentation round. Through a Zoom conference, she passionately defended and shared the insights of her essay, “From Classroom to Community: How Character and Collaboration Empower Youth for Transformative Impact.” The screening tested not only her writing but also her ability to present with clarity, confidence, and conviction before the judges.

Finally, on September 20, the winners were revealed. Arabella was named 2nd Runner-Up in the international tilt, bringing immense pride not only to CAPSU but also to the entire Philippines.

Behind her success is the guidance of her coach, Prof. Edwin Jaimes Villaflor, whose mentorship played a key role in honing her essay and presentation skills. Arabella’s achievement is a testament to CAPSU Sigma’s commitment to excellence, character-building, and global competitiveness.

Her journey from submission, to screening, to the long wait, and finally to victory serves as an inspiring story of determination, faith, and passion for meaningful education.
