
CAPSU strengthens global linkages through international seminar on innovation and sustainability
The Capiz State University (CAPSU) through its External Affairs and Linkages (EAL) Office in collaboration with the College of Management of Burias, Pontevedra, and Roxas City Main Campuses, hosted a hybrid international seminar on September 19, 2025.
Anchored on the theme “Global Synergy: Uniting Business, Engineering and Public Administration for Sustainable Innovation,” the seminar was conducted on-site at the Roxas City Main Campus’ Dadivas Auditorium and online via Zoom videoconferencing.
Dr. Salvacion J. Legaspi, Vice President for External Affairs and Linkages, led the welcoming of the resource speakers and attendees to the event. She emphasized the university’s collective commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation towards sustainable development through various activities such as this seminar.
On the other hand, Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino, Vice President for Administration and Finance, conveyed a message on behalf of University President Dr. Efren L. Linan, where she highlighted the transformative power of collaboration. “By uniting business, engineering, and public administration, we can unlock innovative solutions to pressing global challenges,” she said.
During the seminar proper, Dr. Pratik Mungekar, Director of Research, Innovation and Internationalization, as well as, the Director Naralikar-Mashelkar Space and Innovation Centre of the Sharda Education Society in India, delivered the first topic “AI and Sustainability: Transforming Business, Engineering and Governance for a Smarter Future.”
He explicitly discussed the current applications and effects of AI in various industries around the world and encouraged the participants to share their views and understanding on the impact of AI. Before he ended his lecture, he underscored the significance of the academe in shaping the future with AI.
The second topic was delivered via online by Dr. Khan Sarfaraz Ali, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Business, at the INTI International University in Malaysia. His topic “Cross-Sector Synergies: Building Green Economies through Innovation and Policy,” highlighted the importance of ensuring balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Ali presented various initiatives being practiced by private and government institutions around the globe that addresses the effects of climate change. He ended his presentation by urging the stakeholders to commit for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the betterment of the people and the environment.
The third resource speaker was Dr. Nico Irawan, Program Director of English Language Teaching Program of the Stamford International University Graduate School in Thailand. He tackled “Global Strategies for Sustainability: Insights from Business, Engineering and Governance,” sharing some technologies and innovations adapted by other countries in order to ensure balanced co-existence among the social, economic, and environmental systems.
A breakout session was then held after the series of presentations and attendees were grouped according to their respective programs.
Dr. Pearl Joy G. Mirasol, a faculty member of the College of Management at the Roxas City Main Campus presented the topic “Circular Economy Opportunities for MSMEs.” Meanwhile, Dr. Mae Ann Balbino, a faculty member from the same college at Pontevedra Campus delivered the topic “Climate Policy, Environmental Regulation and Green Procurement”. Likewise, Dr. Joel Villaruz, dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture Technology (CEAT) at the same campus discussed the topic “Program Evaluation Review Technique/Critical Path Method.”
Prior of the culmination of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Dr. Salvacion J. Legaspi, representing the university and Dr. Pratik Mungekar, representing Sharda Education Society, aimed at possible collaboration between the two institutions in the areas of faculty and student exchanges, research, training, and other programs.
Dr. Rodyard B. Madiclum, Campus Administrator of Burias Campus wrapped up the event with a closing message. He expressed appreciation to the resource speakers whom shared their unique perspectives and enriching experiences.
