The Capiz State University’s CoirMach – a coco fiber twining machine invented by faculty member-researchers from the Burias Campus bagged the Tuklas Award for Outstanding Invention – Government Funded category at the ClusteRICE2025 Visayas Cluster.

The inventors behind the CoirMach are Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, Engr. Marilyn L. Bernabe, Engr. Julito A. Albaladejo, Ms. Michelle L. Villamor and Mr. Willard P. Opher. The group received a prize of ₱50,000.00 and will advance to the 2026 National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE). This feat signifies the university’s commitment to research and sustainable technology that provides impactful solution to the community and to agriculture industry.

The award was given during the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI)’s Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits by Cluster (ClusteRICE) – Visayas Cluster held at the Philippine Science High School, Eastern Visayas Campus in Palo, Leyte on August 27, 2025. This second leg of the regional contest highlights and scout homegrown inventions from the three regions in the Visayas and will represent the cluster to the national competition in 2026.

The university also commends the following technologies recognized as cluster finalists in their respective categories:

• Tractor-Mounted Lawn Mower from CAPSU Pontevedra Campus (Tuklas Award – Outstanding Innovation)

• A Biomass-Powered Fish Dryer Solution for Quality Dried Fish from CAPSU Burias Campus (Likha Award – Outstanding Government Creative Research)
